On the western edge of the Mojave desert and the eastern foothills of the Tehachapi mountains, Mojave is uniquely located at the cross-roads of two major highways and is central to many aviation, historical, and natural treasures and activities.
Our list below samples just a few of the unique opportunities available to those who visit Mojave.
Soledad Mountain Mining District – Southwest of Mojave on Silver Queen Road off Highway 14. Gold and silver mining location since the 1890's. Mining operations on Soledad Mountain resumed in 2016 by Golden Queen Mining Company, LLC.
The mining ghost towns of Garlock, Randsburg, and Johannesburg in the Rand Mining District. Take Highway 14 25 miles north to the intersection of the Red Rock-Randsburg Road to visit historic mining communities of Randsburg and Johannesburg.
Famous Tehachapi Loop railroad site – west of Tehachapi, visible from Freeway 58 near Broome Road interchange, and on Tehachapi-Woodford Road. Historic railroad loop designed by William Hood in 1876 to help the Southern Pacific Railroad gain the summit of Tehachapi Pass. Perhaps the most famous railroad engineering site in the United States.
The wind turbines on Oak Creek Pass between Mojave and Tehachapi on Oak Creek Road. Oak Creek Pass is a historic route of early explorers.
Rio Tinto Borax Visitor Centre at the Rio Tinto Borax open pit mine, the world's largest open pit borax mine. Visit the mine's visitor center and the 20 Mule Team Museum in Boron.
Bird watching at Silver Saddle Ranch & Club east of California City on 20 Mule Team Parkway.
Willow Springs International Raceway used for auto and motorcycle racing and testing, west of Rosamond on Rosamond Blvd.
California Living Museum, Bakersfield
Maturango Museum, Ridgecrest
Indian Wells Brewery makers of the famous ‘Mojave Red’ and ‘Mojave Gold’ beers and other artisan beers.
Inyo-Mono Ski Resorts. Mojave is the gateway to Inyo and Mono County ski resorts and winter wonderlands.
