WELCOME TO MOJAVE

COMING EVENTS

Home of America's first civilian spaceport and a nexus of transportation modes, Mojave offers room to grow, exciting vistas to see and a rich history to savor.
We are a dynamic, diverse community that hasn't lost the best in what being a ‘small town’ is all about.
So, no matter what has brought you to or through Mojave, we want you to feel welcome, and we’re eager to share our community, our services and our industry with you!
The next Community Meeting of the Mojave Chamber of Commerce will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, August 25th, 2022.   Zack Scrivner Supervisor for (District 2) will be addressing the Chamber on local and County issues and events.  Those who cannot attend in person will still be able to sign on with ZOOM.  ZOOM sign on information will be emailed to those on our contact list. (See request form at bottom of page)
Mojave Chamber of Commerce:  Highlights of the Monthly Community Meeting, 28 July 2022
The meeting this month featured a presentation by Todd Lindner, CEO of Mojave Air and Space Port, on the operations and current projects at MASP. First, he noted that the name will now include Rutan Field, in honor of the Rutan brothers, whose aviation achievements have brought nation-wide recognition to the facility. He noted that MASP is the only facility in the U.S. that has been conducting horizontal launch operations this year. In fall of 2022, supersonic flight test operations may begin. There is also discussion about developing a hypersonic corridor from China Lake through Mojave to Pt. Mugu. The main runway, 12/30, is due for rehabilitation in spring 2023; the funding was procured with the assistance of Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Supervisor Scrivner. A letter of agreement with the agencies that control U.S. airspace has established a GPS instrument approach at MASP. Also planned are repairs for the GA ramp and an upgrade in the lighting systems. Stratolaunch may begin rocket testing soon. Mr. Lindner said that he had been contacted by the Thunderbirds about basing their winter practice at MASP. Finally, there are ongoing discussions about developing housing options in and around the airport for long-and-short-term employees and contractors.
PCS:  Cathy Hansen announced that Plane Crazy Saturday, on August 20, will feature Emergency Services:  fire, medical, and law enforcement. The presentation will focus on fires in and around aircraft.
Kern County District 2:  Laura Lynne Wyatt announced that Supervisor Scrivner will address the next community meeting, August 25, at noon, in the Vets Bldg. On the following Monday, August 29, at 6 pm and also at the Vets Bldg, the Kern County CFO will hold a townhall-workshop on the proposed tax increase.
Mojave Elks:  Travis Behrens announced the Elks 1st responder dinner in September.
Mothers of Mojave:  Samantha Barbic said that the back-to-school supplies will be held at City Church on August 13. The group will also host a Trunk-or-Treat event this year with the help of the Mojave Elks.
Around Mojave:  Michele Slade reminded people that Kern County does allow evictions of tenants who do not pay rent; she said that east Kern has 244 cases pending. Debbie Crocoll reported that Leon Ryder is still working on graffiti removal as a liaison with the county graffiti removal team. Contact him for assistance with removal of graffiti. Heather Benes announced the opening of the east Kern Books in Motion tour, beginning in Mojave at 3 pm on Monday, August 1 at the Vets. Bldg. The event is free and features “Peter and the Wolf”.
Mojave Chamber of Commerce:  This meeting was held in the Mojave Veterans Building. Box lunches from Subway Sandwiches were available. Thirty-two people attended; 10 by zoom.  Secretary: Heather Benes
